H1N1 VIRUS:
Belmont University Health Services and university administration are monitoring the ongoing situation of the new flu virus spreading worldwide known as novel or H1N1 flu. Belmont seeks to reduce the likelihood of transmission and illness through education of faculty, staff and students and by providing up-to-date information to help the Belmont community address any challenges presented by the emergence of the H1N1 virus. WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW TO HELP PREVENT FLU:
The Center for Disease Control is encouraging everyone to take three basic steps to fight the flu, especially H1N1:
1) Take time to get vaccinated. Click here for information on the seasonal flu vaccine and here for information on the H1N1 vaccine. The seasonal flu vaccine is available in Belmont Health Services beginning Wed., Sept. 2.
2) Take everyday preventive actions (cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, wash your hands often with soap and water, etc.) In order to provide a healthier atmosphere for the Belmont community, large containers of hand sanitizer are located in approximately 30 high traffic areas across campus.
3) Take flu antiviral drugs if recommended.

IF YOU GET FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS:
Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Belmont asks that anyone with flu-like symptoms (fever over 100 degrees, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills and fatigue) stay home from work or class and limit contact with others to prevent additional infections.
