Wesley A. Bulla, Ph.D.
My interest in the music business began as a
drummer and percussionist in my high school concert and jazz bands
and later at the University of NC in Greensboro. My music business
career began when my first band (a real garage band) won our
regional Battle of the Bands contest. I first worked as a touring
musician playing drums, keyboards, and bass guitar and traveled all
over the Southeast and Midwest. Now I spend my time as a music
producer, recording engineer, sometimes songwriter and session
musician.
Along the way I also have managed to find time to earn a masters degree in music education and (believe it or not) a doctorate (Ph.D.) in hearing science from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. When I first came to Nashville (in the late-1980s) I worked for EMI Music in their songwriter studio and since then have worked on over 800 recording sessions for all types of music from Rap to Rock to Country to Classical. I have been teaching at Belmont University for 16 years and I am currently the Dean and an Associate Professor in the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business.
