Transfer applicants are encouraged to apply at the beginning of the semester prior to which they wish to enroll. In most cases, applications are considered on a rolling basis and you should expect to hear an admissions decision within about 4-5 weeks after your application is complete.
Request All of Your Transcripts: Belmont is required to have on file a transcript from each college that an applicant has attended - even if it was a summer school or dual enrollment course at a local community college.

Applications for admission are for a particular term of enrollment. Requirements may change from one term to another. If you do not choose to enroll when you are accepted, your admission cannot be deferred, and you must reapply. Admission is not guaranteed for subsequent semesters.
Transfer applicants will be considered competitive for admission with above average academic records. Transfer work should be strongly related to the chosen field of study.
Please feel free to contact the Office of Admissions with any questions you may have regarding the application process. We strongly encourage you to contact your transfer admissions counselor if you wish to discuss a specific situation regarding your application or if you are applying close to the application deadline.
- Complete the entire degree seeking application for undergraduate admission, including the Personal Supplement and essay questions. Submit the $50.00 application fee. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Belmont University
- Request that official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended be sent directly to Belmont, including courses taken as dual enrollment. If you are currently enrolled in your first term at an institution, a “Letter of Good Standing” or “Enrollment Certification Letter” should be submitted in lieu of a transcript.
- Provide the Confidential Recommendation Form to the appropriate person as designated on the form and have the reference send the form directly to Belmont University.
- Transfer applicants who have earned fewer than 30* transferable semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited institution at the time of application must request an official high school transcript, official scores from SAT or ACT, and the Secondary School Report Form be sent directly to Belmont.
*(Not including credit from CLEP, IB, AP exams, institutional credit by examination, remedial or developmental course work, or non-academic orientation course.)
- All Nursing applicants, with the exception of licensed registered nurses or those with a previous bachelor’s degree, must request an official high school transcript and official scores from SAT or ACT be sent directly to Belmont.

- Enrollment Deposit: An enrollment confirmation will be mailed with your acceptance letter. Complete the form and return it with a $250 nonrefundable enrollment deposit. This will secure your place in the entering class.
- Transcript Evaluation and Course Equivalencies:
An unofficial preliminary transcript report will be provided at the time of acceptance showing how previous course work fulfills Belmont’s general education requirements. A final transcript evaluation, including evaluation of courses towards the major and minor, will be provided by the end of your first semester. (Course by course evaluations are not provided for applicants with prior bachelor degrees.)
Course by course transcript evaluations are not provided prior to acceptance. However, Belmont helps prospective transfer students make informed decisions about their future college options by providing resources and guidance prior to enrollment regarding the likelihood of transferability of an applicant’s previous course work towards a Belmont degree program.
- Transfering Credit: In general, Belmont University accepts transfer credit from any regionally accredited institution, as long as the course is not remedial or developmental, a nonacademic orientation course or institutional credit by examination.
Belmont University accepts credit from any institution regionally accredited through the Southern, Western, Northwest, New England, North Central, or Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
Transferred grades of “D” may not be used for major, minor, or general education requirements.
For official details on alternative credit programs such as CLEP, AP, or IB, click here. Official scores from these examinations must be sent directly to Belmont for credit to be awarded.

- Housing: While Belmont has residential space for transfer students, it is limited and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Transfer students with fewer than 30 hours at the time of matriculation are required to live on campus and therefore guaranteed housing. Transfer students with 30 or more hours at the time of matriculation are placed on a waitlist based upon the submission date of the enrollment deposit. Therefore, you are advised to submit your enrollment confirmation form indicating your request for housing as soon as possible. Should space become available, assignments will be made based upon deposit date and gender availability.
Belmont’s Office of Residence Life is pleased to offer assistance to transfer students to help with their search for off-campus housing. After paying the enrollment deposit, you can request access to our online Housing Helper to search for potential roommates among other incoming transfer students. For now, you can check out www.belmont.edu/reslife for details about residence hall communities, off campus housing resources, summer housing and more.
- Student Health Form: A student health form will be mailed with the acceptance letter. It must be completed and returned prior to registration.
- New Student Orientation: Towering Traditions introduces new transfer students to life at Belmont. Students will meet and establish relationships with fellow classmates. Registration for classes also happens at this time. Visit the Towering Traditions website for more information.
- Financial Assistance: Belmont’s cost of attendance is about 80% of the national average for a private college and about 75% of our students receive some type of financial assistance. Most of Belmont’s merit scholarship funds are geared toward incoming freshmen; however a very limited number of transfer scholarships are available. To be eligible, transfer students must demonstrate need through the FAFSA and present a cumulative transfer GPA of at least a 3.8.
